"Stefan Szkwarek was born and raised in Winnipeg MB to a proud Ukrainian-Canadian family. In June 1998 he joined the Canadian Forces, attending Royal Military College and graduating in 2002 with a BEng (Mech). After this he served as an Aerospace Engineering Officer, retiring in November 2018. Career highlights included multiple tours in the SAR community, completing an M. Sc in Aircraft Design in 2012, obtaining his PEng in 2016 and an overseas deployment to Kuwait in 2016.

Stefan's Soccer background is extensive, having played for the varsity team at RMC, the Canadian Forces Representative (CISM) team for the vast majority of his career, PDL, Ontario League 1 and 2 years in England. In his early days he was also a referee and through this adult life he has coached extensively and invested in his coach-education. To this latter point, Stefan was awarded his Canadian Soccer Association "A" license in August 2019. Stefan has also served on the Comox Valley United Executive Board since Feb 2017, during which he has been the director of player development and most recently, the club president since September of 2018.

Stefan is a passionate community advocate and with his wife Karen is raising three strong daughters (Sarah, Katya and Mia) here in the Comox Valley. They have been able to stay local as Karen is a teacher with SD71 and Stefan took on a new role with CAE as the Site Manager of the new FWSAR Training Centre at 19 Wing Comox."
