Chief Gord Schreiner
Comox Fire Rescue - Update on the Fire Service

Gord Schreiner joined the fire service in 1975.  He is currently an Executive Chief Fire Officer (ECFO), a graduate of the Institute of Fire Engineers (GIFireE) and the Fire Chief of Comox Fire Rescue, an organization consisting of 6 full-time staff and 55 paid on call volunteer firefighters, serving approximately 23,000 citizens. Chief Schreiner is also a part-time instructor with the Justice Institute of British Columbia, Fire and Safety Division.  In this role, he has traveled all over British Columbia, twice to Saudi Arabia, and also taught in USA, delivering several different fire service courses.

Over the years Chief Schreiner has been a strong role model and mentor to several firefighters from both his department and other fire departments. Chief Schreiner enjoys working with smaller fire departments, assisting them in many ways. He has developed a reputation of “getting things done” safely and effectively.

 

Awards and Recognitions:

2010 National Fire Chief of the Year award from the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs

2010 “Award of Excellence” from the Justice Institute of BC.

2004 “Trainer of the Year” award from the BC Fire Training Officers Association

2003 “Public Safety Award” from the Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce.

He served as Chairperson of the Comox Valley Fire Chiefs Association for several years

Educational Chair for the Fire Chiefs Association of British Columbia annual conferences for ten years.

Chief Schreiner has also served on several provincial committees, and currently serves as a “Structural Protection Specialist” at larger British Columbia interface fires.

 

Chief Schreiner is known as a “workaholic” who emphasizes customer service and has done much to improve his fire department and the service to his and other communities.
